High Adventure

The outdoor program is a key part of Scouting at every level. The chart "Ever Increasing Challenge in the Outdoors" shows how the Scout grows year by year as more is required and expected of him in his outdoor activities. But, when these activities are age and rank appropriate, are well planned out and properly executed, they will bring zest and add excitement to the Scouting program and will help us retain our Scouts even longer.

The High Adventure aspect of Scouting needs to be reserved for the Boy Scouts of upper ranks (at least First Class and above) and for Venturing Crews. High Adventure could include extended hikes or canoe treks, climbing or caving expeditions, a trip to one of the BSA High Adventure Bases and more.

For more information, check the Scoutmaster's Handbook or Troop Program Features or click the links for the BSA High Adventure Bases: Philmont, Ely Canoe Base or the Sea Base.
