IMPORTANT CHANGES

To better serve our Scouts, we have modified our camp schedule to feature 4 Sessions of Summer Camp at Flaming Arrow in 2008.   These will run from Sunday, June 15 through Saturday, July 19 with one week (July 6-12) closed and reserved for Buckskin N.Y.L.T.

A Scout is Courteous
We are all, first and foremost, members of the Boy Scouts of America.  The basic rules governing Camp Flaming Arrow are:

The Scout Oath
On my honor, I will do my best,
To do my duty to God and my Country
And to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong,
Mentally awake, and morally straight.

The Scout Law
A Scout is trustworthy, loyal
helpful, friendly, courteous, kind,
obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave,
clean, and reverent.

Rules are made for the safety of campers, protection of equipment, and to provide fairness to all.

  • No firearms, bows and arrows, or ammunition of any kind may be kept in the possession of any Scout or Leader.  These materials must be checked in with the Rifle Range Director upon arrival at camp.
  • No fireworks of any kind are permitted on camp property.
  • No alcoholic beverages, marijuana, or other unlawful drugs.
  • Closed-toed shoes must be worn in camp at all times.
  • Anyone leaving camp must sign out at the Camp Director's office.
  • No vehicles are permitted in camp.
  • Sheath knives are not allowed in camp.
  • Medication for all Scouts must be kept at the Health Lodge.
  • Wildlife: Flaming Arrow is blessed with a wide variety of wild creatures.  Under no circumstances should anyone touch or disturb snakes or other animals. Flaming Arrow is a relocation area for gopher tortoises.  Do Not disturb these endangered animals.

The Commissioners
You can expect several things from your camp commissioners. First, any problems that you have with your campsite will be referred to a commissioner, whether it is no hot water or if a tent is broken. In addition to this he or she will also conduct (or a representative of theirs) campsite inspections daily, using the inspection sheet, as well as administer the Honor Troop Award weekly. Finally, at Flaming Arrow Scout Reservation, you can expect the commissioners to drop off hot coffee and newspapers before flag ceremony every morning.

National Guidelines
The following policies have been adopted to provide additional security for the Scouts participating in the programs. In addition, they serve to protect adult leadership from situations in which they are vulnerable to allegations of abuse.

Two-deep leadership: Two registered adult leaders or one registered adult leader and a parent of a participant, one of whom must be 21 years of age or older, are required on all trips and outings. The chartered organization is responsible for ensuring that sufficient leadership is provided for all activities.

No one-on-one contact: One-on-one contact between adults and youth members is not permitted. In situations that require a personal conference, such as a Scoutmaster conference, the meeting is to be conducted in view of other adults and youth.

Respect of privacy: Adult leaders must respect the privacy of youth members in situations such as changing into swimming suits or taking showers at camp and intrude only to the extent that health and safety issues need to be addressed.

Separate accommodations: When camping, no youth is permitted to sleep in the tent of an adult other than his own parent or guardian. Flaming Arrow Scout Reservation provides signs to mark when bath houses are in use by Male or Females.

Proper preparation for high-endurance activities: Activities with elements of risk should not be undertaken without proper preparation, supervision, and safety measures.

Boy Scouts of America Smoke-Free Policy: It is policy to provide a smoke-free environment for all Scouting participants. Therefore, tobacco products are not allowed at Camp (please refer to your Guide to Safe Scouting and Camp and Health & Safety Guide.) Thank You for your assistance!
