Other Marketing Opportunities

Marketing Scouting does not have to be limited to newspaper articles and occasional radio or TV spots. Opportunities for meaningful marketing are all around us, if we keep our eyes open. Here are just a few that you could consider.

Parades are a great marketing tool because the greatest number of people gets to see your Scouts in a short time for a relatively small investment of time or materials. You can have a walking/marching unit, decorate bikes or banners, or even decorate a float but be visible in your community parades. See "Parade Restrictions" to the left for more ideas and safety tips.

Color Guard at games. Your Scouts could present the colors at home high school football or basketball games-again, in uniform.

Fairs. Have a Scouting booth at your local fair. You don't have to be selling anything-just demonstrate some Scouting skills or have some interactive crafts that people can make and take.

Scout Expo. This is a BIG opportunity for every unit in the council. Click on the Scout Expo Link to get you to more information elsewhere on this website.

Parking Lots. When you have town fairs or other activities, let your older Scouts assist with the parking lot detail. Or, help with the trash clean up. People will see Scouts in uniforms giving service to the community and that's some of the best marketing we can do!
