The Bring a Buddy Plan

This is a great way for you to fill up a den, pack, troop or crew! Click HERE to download a copy of the Bring a Buddy (pack and troop versions) plan but, simply put, it's a 3-step process.

1) After a well-planned and successful meeting, pass out 3" x 5" cards to your Scouts and ask them to write down the names of 3 friends from their school, neighborhood, church, etc. that they think would enjoy a program like they just had. Give them a few minutes to write them down.

2) Collect the cards and review them with the group. Chances are that a few names will appear on a number of cards (several Scouts think that one boy would enjoy Scouting). Other names will appear on only one card.

3) Ask the Scouts to take ownership of ONE name each. Their job is to be sure that "their" named friend is invited to the meeting the next week. It would be wise to call each Scout mid-week to remind them and ask how their invitation went. In a troop, the Senior Patrol Leader should do that. In other programs, it will probably be the leader or another parent.

In most cases, the Scouts will make their approach and-again, in most cases-the prospective member will say "yes" and will come to the next meeting. While you may not double your unit overnight, you will definitely see an increase as one buddy talks to another buddy about the fun he's having as a Scout. Be sure to look at the whole plan, and then give it a try!
