Growing Scouting
The program of Scouting is proven to have a positive impact on the lives of young people as we help them develop character, citizenship values and personal fitness. As expressed in the Mission Statement of the Boy Scouts of America, our aim is to serve others and help young people make ethical choices and achieve their full potential. Time and again, it has been shown that Scouting can and does have that kind of impact.
But the question of the hour is:
"Are we more effective at instilling values and teaching character, citizenship and fitness with boys that are IN Scouting or NOT in Scouting?"
The answer is clear. We are more effective in achieving our aims when boys are an active part of our program. And, the longer they stay in our program(s), the more deeply the mission and values that Scouting offers impact them.
So, all of us should be constantly looking for ways to extend the Scouting program to more youth-and more families-than ever and to provide the highest quality program possible so that the Scouts we have stay with us longer. The program in the left side column offer proven techniques to recruit new Scouts and to retaining more of them in Scouting for years to come.*
New Members + Retention of Current Scouts = Growth in Scouting
*If you get to a point where you feel like your unit (pack, troop, etc.) is so large that there would be diminishing return by adding more youth and families, please contact your District Executive or drop a note to the JoinScouting support team and someone will start working on new ways to serve those families who want to get involved in Scouting.
