Sample Projects
Do you need some inspiration for an Eagle Scout Service Project? Generally speaking, your project must demonstrate your leadership skills, must benefit the community or some organization besides Scouting, cannot be a fund-raiser, and must include a significant number of man-hours to complete. There is no "hard and fast rule" about how many hours are required, but you can see in the following example that hours can add up rather quickly.
Example:
- A Scout spends 2 or 3 hours developing the concept for his project.
- He spends another 2 hours presenting that concept to his Scoutmaster (for initial approval) and to the organization that will benefit.
- He spends 5 hours securing the materials, necessary labor force, scheduling, etc.
- Then, on the actual day of the project, he has 10 Scouts who spend 8 hours to carry out the work.
His project has already consisted of 90 man-hours and he still has the documentation to do, thank you's to those who helped, etc.
From time to time we'll be updating our list of projects that have been successfully completed here in the Gulf Ridge Council. The current list can be downloaded by clicking HERE (link not active yet).
Eagle Project Opportunities
From time to time, organizations or individuals contact the Gulf Ridge Council with recommendations of potential Eagle Scout Service Projects. While we do not specifically endorse any of these projects, we will provide links and information as appropriate so that Life Scouts who are looking for projects have at least one more source of ideas at their disposal.
