District Award of Merit
The Distirct Award of Merit is the highest honor that a district can bestow on one of its volunteer Scout leaders. This award recognizes exemplary service to youth in through Scouting. While Scout leadership is a central requirement for this award, service to youth outside of Scouting--through church, sports leagues, other youth groups, etc.--is also considered as part of the nominee's total service to youth.
There is no tenure requirement (no minimum years of service) for this award. This acknowledges that some people make an impact by steady service over a period of years while others may have a major impact on Scouting through one, extraordinary act or other significant actions over a shorter period of time.
This award can not be sought. Rather, it is earned through service but can only be presented to those who are nominated by one of their peers. Scouters should give careful consideration to those who truly exemplify the highest and best parts of Scouting and who cheerfully and tirelessly serve the youth in their care. A nomination form is available through the link to the left to submit the record of service for deserving adult leaders.
NOTE: a district may present no more than 1 District Award of Merit annually for each 25 traditional units or fraction thereof. These awards are generally presented at the annual district recognition dinner.
