Cub World
Medieval Faire!
Each year, the Gulf Ridge Council conducts several weekend-long events for Cub Scouts and their families known as Cub Worlds. This year, we've selected ONE theme that will carry through all five Cub Worlds: Medieval Faire! We'll participate in period crafts, entertainment, contests and games. There will be a lot of NEW at this Olde English Faire for you--even the exciting King's Tournament to highlight the weekend.
These programs are conducted throughout the council for a very reasonable fee ($30.00 for the Scout and his adult partner) with nominal fees for siblings or other family members who may want to attend with him. See more information on FEES and the food service options below.
Sorry but, NO we cannot "hold" a few places for your unit based on a phone call or email. Cub Worlds are very popular programs and traditionally fill up. The only fair practice is to count only paid reservations as "actual" reservations. See below for a couple of real-life examples.

As in the past, registration for Cub World is done through the pack, not as individual families. Click for:
There are registration limits on Cub Worlds, generally no more than 250 Cub Scouts (about 500 total people). Early registration will help your pack assure i's space at the Cub World weekend that works out best for you.
Because of insurance restrictions, some activities must and will be limited to registered Cub Scouts only. Where possible, we will provide alternate activities for siblings or others who may attend Cub World with their Scout, but our primary emphasis will be on providing a high quality program for our Scouts.

The increase in Cub World fees compared to what we've been able to offer in recent years reflect the real increased costs the council has incurred, related primarily to property insurance. Like virtually everyone else in the State of Florida, we have seen a significant increase in the cost of our property insurance – more than 3 times what we paid in 2006! Our health and accident insurance cost has risen as well. The result is that we must increase the camp use fees for all events in the council to partially recoup those expenses
Food service is available for Cub Worlds #2, #4 and #5 for an additional $12.00 per person, payable with the initial registration. We highly recommend it because it reduces the amount of "stuff" you have to bring into your campsite and the amount of time you have to spend prepping meals and cleaning up afterwards.
Why Can't You Hold 50 Places for My Pack--We'll Bring the Money Later On?
Here are a couple of examples of why we can't reserve space at Cub Worlds without forms and fees.
- Pack "A" calls or emails and asks the council to "hold 50 places for us" with a promise to pay later on. They may even fax in a roster form but no fees. A week later, we max out and close our camp session. Then, Pack "B" comes in with forms and fees for 15 Scouts and families and are turned away. Utlimately, at Cub World, Pack "A" shows up with only 20 people (and, of course only wants to pay for 20) while 15 other Scouts and families were denied the Cub World.
- Pack "A" pays for 50 people, Cub World fills up and, when Pack "B" comes in, they are turned away. Pack "A" shows up with 20 people and the other 30 want refunds. Because the council held those spaces for them and denied Cub World to other Scouts, there are no refunds.
Think of this as though you were purchasing a ticket to a sporting event. If the family decides not to attend the ball game because "it's too hot," or "Jimmy had something else to do that night," but the game is played, they don't contact the team for a refund. Or, if you call the franchise main ticket office and ask them to hold 50 seats for you and your group, you would not expect them to do that without receiving payment for those seats. A reservation is a reservation and both parties will honor it. Certainly, there can be Cub World refunds in extreme cases, but those are rare.
