Tour and Activity Plan Update

Home improvement retailer Lowe’s has teamed with the Boy Scouts of America to provide the Lowe’s National Eagle Scout Project Impact grant for candidates working on their Eagle Scout project. A generous contribution from the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation makes it possible for the Gulf Ridge Council to present $100 prepaid gift cards to the first 30 Eagle Scout candidates that qualify. To qualify for a Lowe’s National Eagle Scout Project Impact grant, the individual must:
- -Be a registered Life Scout
- -Complete and submit the Lowe's grant application, available here
- -Be sure the Eagle Scout service project has all approvals before the work begins
- -Use the Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook to document the results of the service project
For your project to be considered, complete and submit the Lowe’s grant application to Maria Edley at the Council office, email or phone, (813) 872-2691 ext. 108.
Council Events
Looking for a great opportunity for a fun-packed weekend of aquatic adventure? AquAcademy 2012 may be just the thing! Gulf Ridge Council is hosting AquAcademy 2012 Oct. 5 - 7, 2012 at Flaming Arrow Scout Reservation in Lake Wales, FL. Scouts choose their own schedule of merit badges to work on for the weekend, including aquatic and Eagle-required badges. Some badges will take the entire weekend, others can be completed in half a day. Adult leader training, including Fast Start, New Leader Essentials and Scoutmaster Specific Training, is also available.

Cub Scout Events
The Gulf Ridge Council will host Cub Scout Night at the Lakeland Flying Tigers game against the Stone Crabs on June 8. Gates open at 6 p.m. with the first pitch at 7:11 p.m. Make plans to join other Scouts for an evening of baseball, fun and food. Plus, Scouts who purchase the special ticket package get to campout on the stadium outfield and watch a movie on the video board. Breakfast will be provided on Saturday morning. Visual Storytelling Workshops
Two regional workshops have been scheduled for 2012, one in Convington, Georgia (near Atlanta) from June 17 to 20 at the Bert Adams Scout Reservation, and the other at Philmont Scout Ranch from July 29 to August 4. Cost of the Covington workshop is $250, plus your travel expenses. Cost of the Philmont workshop is $495, plus your travel expenses. More information, including an informative video, is here.
To attend, you must have a passion for photography and be a registered Scouter. In addition, your Youth Protection training must be current. Space is limited and workshops will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis for those who meet the criteria. More information is available here.
